Theragun vs Hypervolt: same house, different tools

Both brands belong to Therabody, so this is a sibling rivalry, not a fight. The practical difference: Theragun heads reciprocate (true percussion, up to 3,200 hits per minute) while Hypervolt heads vibrate. Theragun also carries the longer clinical and athlete heritage and a wider head system.

Which is better? For deep, pinpoint work on tight muscle, the percussion feel tends to win. For lighter, broader relaxation, a Hypervolt at a lower price point does a fine job. If a friend owns a Hypervolt and you are buying a Theragun for the first time, know that you are paying for the head system and the pro pedigree, not for a different company.

Theragun vs a regular massage gun

A budget percussion gun will move muscle, and for twice-a-month use that is enough. What a Theragun adds: a head system that fits every muscle group, a speed range you will actually use instead of the middle setting, published battery figures, a one-year warranty and a support line that answers. That is the premium, itemized.

FAQ

Model questions, answered

What is the difference between Theragun Mini, Prime, Pro and Relief?

Size and intensity. The Mini is the smallest and lightest, built for travel and neck-to-leg work. The Prime is the full-size daily workhorse with the most durable build. The Pro is the full-size deep-massage option for heavy users. The Relief is the gentlest, aimed at first-timers and sensitive muscle. All four run on the same swappable head system.

What is the difference between Theragun Prime and Prime Plus?

Heat. The Prime Plus adds a heated percussion head that warms the muscle before and during the session, plus a slightly longer 150 minute battery. If you do not care about heat, the Prime is the better value; if you want to warm up and treat in one pass, the Plus earns the step up.

What is the difference between Theragun Pro and Pro Plus?

Modalities. The Pro is full-size deep percussion, period. The Pro Plus stacks heat, LED light therapy and vibration on top of that same full-size hit, which makes it the most expensive Theragun and the one aimed at serious athletes. If you only want the hit, the Pro saves real money.

What is the difference between Theragun Mini and full-size Theragun models?

Reach and depth. The Mini is lighter and shorter, so it gets to your own neck and shoulders easily, and it fits in a carry-on. Full-size models (Prime, Pro, Pro Plus) have bigger motors and longer bodies for deeper work on glutes and back, at the cost of a few hundred grams. If you are 5’2” and treat yourself, the Mini covers most of it.

What is the best Theragun for athletes?

The Pro Plus, if budget allows: heat before, percussion during, and the vibration and LED options after. On a tighter budget, the Prime is the athlete’s default and the one you will see in gym bags. Either way, pair it with the Dampener and Large Ball heads.

What is the best Theragun for travel?

The Mini, clearly. It is the smallest Theragun, the battery lasts 150 minutes, and it goes in a laptop bag without the airport agent raising an eyebrow. The Mini Plus is the same logic if you want heat on the road.

What is the best Theragun for beginners?

Two honest answers. If you want to test the habit before spending much: the Relief, the gentlest and cheapest current model. If you want the one you will still use in a year: the Mini. Both are forgiving at low speed, and both use heads that fit every other Theragun you might upgrade to.

What is the smallest Theragun?

The Theragun Mini (3rd Gen). It is the only model that fits comfortably in one hand head and handle together, and it is the one airports and hotel suitcases accept without comment.

What is the most powerful Theragun?

The Theragun Pro Plus. Full-size percussion plus heat, LED and vibration, and the largest battery in the current range at roughly 150 minutes. It is also the most expensive, which is the point.

Is the Theragun Elite discontinued?

Yes. The Theragun Elite, our 2021 flagship, has been replaced by the Sense for guided gentle massage and by the Pro for full-size deep percussion. If you own an Elite, your standard replacement heads still fit the current range, and the warranty and support team still cover it.

Which Theragun is best?

There is no single best, but there is a best for you. Travel or first gun: Mini. Daily use: Prime. Heat matters: Prime Plus. Serious training with no budget ceiling: Pro Plus. The table above is the whole decision, in four columns.

Is Theragun better than Hypervolt?

Different feel, same company. Theragun uses true reciprocating percussion; Hypervolt uses oscillating vibration. For deep pinpoint work most people prefer the Theragun feel; for broad, lighter relaxation a Hypervolt is solid and often cheaper. Neither is “better” across the board. Read our full Theragun vs Hypervolt section above for the honest breakdown.
